How can you clear what you pull up on the internet off of your hard drive?

I know that clearing the history will erase that and clearing the cookies but I know that you can still look up what was viewed on computer. How can you clear it for good?How can you clear what you pull up on the internet off of your hard drive?
You don't need to reformat your harddrive or anything of the sort. THe easiest free way to get rid of the unwanted history is to install Trackless and Privacy Mantra. THese handy bits of software will delete the index.dat files which still contain your history but are unable to be viewed without an outside program such as index.dat zap.
