How can I clear ALL history of visits to Internet sites, not just delete them but clear the imbeded record?

I use Internet Explorer%26gt;Tools%26gt;Internet Options%26gt;General to ';Clear History'; but Google Desktop search indicates thousands of Internet visitations and this must be slowing my laptop. I would like to eliminate them from my memory. I would prefer not having to purchase a commercial Cleanser Program. ThanksHow can I clear ALL history of visits to Internet sites, not just delete them but clear the imbeded record?
Try this:

Accessories%26gt;System Tools%26gt;Disk Cleanup.

Then choose your hard drive disk that you use the most (usually [C:]), click OK, it should load the files for cleanup...

A list should show up. (Temporary Internet Files, Offline web Pages, Recycle Bin, etc).

Check the box for Temporary Internet Files, click OK, and confirm by pressing Yes when the box pops up.

(Also: If you would like to individually delete the actual cookies, after checking the box, near the bottom you will see a button that says View Files. Click that and a window will pop up showing you all the cookies that are stored on your computer. Just highlight and delete the cookies you want. Remember: cookies are there to help your computer run quicker but some are unnecessary over a long period of time).

This should clean most of the unnecessary stuff you don't need. Good luck. How can I clear ALL history of visits to Internet sites, not just delete them but clear the imbeded record?

Oooh. I am more interested in what you are trying to cover up. Anyway, there should be a place where you can erase temporary internet files and the caches. I have a Mac...so we have private browsing if we wanted to do anything sneaky.
what have you been up to then ? playing away, looking at porn? you do know that specialists can get stuff like that out of your comp no matter what you do even if you do cleanse it. hope you havent done somthin bad cuz u'll get caught.
Go to Tools - Internet Options - and near the bottom is ';History'; then push delete, etc.
If you use Firefox you can delete History, Cache, Cookies, everything like that with just one click in a menu. Remember kids, just say no to Internet Explorer, it's crap.
Hi,

If you are using Explorer go to Tools and click on Options. You should be on the General Tab so go to the bottom of that page and look for a tab saying Clear History. Thats is all, done,

See ya
google Desktop keeps it's own history that you would have to clear, independent of IE.
U can delete the history of search bar on ur homepage (whatever it is either Yahoo! or Google) by following this path. Tools%26gt; internet options%26gt; content%26gt; auto complete%26gt; clear forms. To stop the generation of history uncheck the box of forms.

To delete address bar history, follow this path. Tools%26gt; internet options%26gt; general %26gt; clear history %26gt; set the number of days to zero%26gt; ok.

U can delete the search history on ur yahoo toolbar this way. click the arrow in the search box. Select options, click clear history.

It will solve ur all search related problems.
google desktop doesnot visit the web. it only searches your hard drive.

I would suggest visiting pcmagazine.com. Some of the answers I'm reading to your question are partial solutions. Too much faith in Firefox can burn the fox, but it is an excellent browser, if not the best.

There is a history log, temp files, cookies and hidden temp files as well as things installed that you might not be aware of. If you are concerned only about the casual family intruder, Clear the cookies, temp files and history in IE and if you do use some search engines, find out what cache they are using and clear that also. This may not protect you from being exposed through adware or some other malware. They can ';pop up'; on you for some rather awkward moments.
You need to clean out your temporary files %26gt; cookies. THis is under Explorer

Here's the correct download url for CCleaner, its free and the best program of its type. Also, Ewido anti trojan has some privacy tools.

Always go to the original website.
I agree with Hydrasire that these are solutions, though only partial ones. To really get rid of that deitrus, rebbot your computer. When the manufacturer screen comes up (Compaq, HP, Dell, etc), hit F8 repeatedly. You'll see a screen with lots of options on it. Select BOOT INTO SAFEMODE. After the computer boots into SAFEMODE, do a search for all .DAT files. Delete all that are found, and reboot normally.

Index.dat are the files that store that extra internet history info.
sounds like you are doing something shady....
reboot your pc
i know a program that is completely free and works perfectly and also has secure deletion if its anything u never want ppl to see that u r deleting. its called ccleaner and u can download it from download.com or ccleaner.com

hope this helps
Search the web for a Program called ZERO TRACKS.

It is freeware and it works.

You also need to find freeware that will wipe all free-space on your hard Drives. The wiping software must do multiple wiping. this is the way the military do it.
