You can't delete the Google history, they keep it forever.

I have OS X 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.0.1
If you are really urgent to get rid of whatever is on your history, delete the program and download it over again. It wil be a completely new slate.
Top left History click on that and then on clear history
Go to the tools menu and click clear private data... this should work
